At Robert L. Merritt Jr. High, we envision a school culture that focuses on producing high levels of student achievement and staff effectiveness in leadership, instructional practices, and positive student-teacher interactions. Our goal is “Growth For All Students” and we will do our very best to collaborate with you to make our goal attainable.
I am happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! We are always looking forward to a very productive partnership with you to ensure the children of Sunflower County Consolidated School District will achieve their highest potential at Robert L. Merritt Jr. High. We believe that our children need support from home and school in order to educate the whole child. Also, a strong partnership with you will make a huge difference in your child’s education and have a positive impact on our school’s environment. We want all of our students to have a positive experience as they soar academically in all of their classes. Some of the ways we will ensure students have a good experience is by rewarding them throughout the year with incentives for doing well in academics and behavior. So if your child would like to be included, he or she must be mindful of their conduct and their academic performance. The expectation is that your child will be academically engaged and display acceptable conduct in order to maximize his/her potential.
We ask that you support your child’s learning by making sure that he/she attends school daily and arrives on time ready to encounter more learning experiences. Please make sure that your child has materials such as paper, pencils, notebooks, folders, backpack, and other supplies necessary for school. He/she should complete all homework assignments given by teachers for this ensures that your children will have more time to practice on important skills given by the teacher.
It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding expectations related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year. You can find our student handbook on the district’s website or you can request a copy from the school. Be sure to discuss acceptable behavior with your child to ensure a smooth transition into a new school year. We thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to meeting and working with you.
